Gale River Motel, Franconia

The Gale River Motel is very conscious of the environmental impact.  The GRM was the first motel in the state to install a solar thermal system to heat water for various guest needs.  Energy is conserved by using compact fluorescent lighting, Energy Star appliances, and exterior areas timers.  Low-flow devices in guest rooms, native planting and limited landscape watering result in water conservation.  They reduce waste through recycling, composting, purchasing in bulk, double sided copying in the office.  They participate in hazardous waste collection day, eliminated the use of laundry chlorine and provide guests with the opportunity  to offer suggestions.

White Mountain Region Motels and Hotels

The Profile Deluxe Motel reduces their energy consumption with the use energy efficient lighting both inside and out and with a policy to replace appliances with Energy Star models, as needed.  Water conservation is achieved through a towel and linen reuse program, low-flow toilets, faucets and showerheads, landscaping with native plants and early morning watering.  The motel reduces its waste by purchasing in bulk, using glasses and mugs in guestrooms, employing double-sided copying, providing guest amenities on request and refurbishing or donating used furniture.  Chlorine use has been reduced, fluorescent lighting and other chemicals are properly disposed of.

The Kancamagus Motor Lodge is very committed to reducing their environmental impact.  The lodge is reducing their energy use through the installation of EE lighting in the operational areas and outdoor hallways of the facility, installed timers on external lighting, daylighting in pool are until dusk and have a policy to replace equipment with Energy Star models.  The lodge conserves water with a towel & linen reuse program, minimal landscape watering and low-flow showerheads and faucets.  Waste is reduced through recycling, purchasing amenities in bulk, phasing in of cloth napkins, double-sided printing and recycled paper to-go containers.  They also use certified Green Seal cleaning products and participate in hazardous waste collection days. 

The Hampton Inn & Suites has a management team focused on lessening their environmental impact.  Energy is conserved through the installation of energy efficient lighting inside and out, HVAC management based on occupancy, LED Exit signs, and a policy to purchase Energy Star rated appliances.  The hotel conserves water use through low-flow showerheads and faucets and limited landscape watering.  The property recycles cardboard, purchases office paper with post-consumer recycled content and employs double sided printing to reduce their waste.  Chemicals are not used in landscaping, a natural chlorine generating system is used for the pool, and CFLs are properly disposed of.

Text Box: The Shamrock Motel is moving along in the implementation of  more environmentally friendly initiatives.  The motel has begun to install CFLs to reduce their energy use both indoors and out.  They conserve water through low-flow water devices in guestrooms, a towel and linen reuse program and minimal landscape watering.  They reduce their waste through a full recycling program, reusable drinkware in guestrooms and the use of cloth napkins.  They have also reduced their use of hazardous chemicals in landscaping.

The White Mountain Hotel & Resort employs energy efficient lighting, LED exit signs and daylighting to conserve energy.  Water is conserved by offering a towel and linen reuse option to guests, using an ozone injection laundry system, installing a water-saving dishwashing system, landscaping with perennials and employing a water conservation maintenance plan.  Waste reduction is achieved through recycling, reusable guestroom and restaurant dinnerware, paper use reduction policies and electronic guest communication, recycled material key cards and more.  Hazardous chemical use has been reduced in both the interior and exterior areas of the resort, including Green Seal certified cleaning products and low-VOC paints.  Employees are encouraged to make changes at home too through the NH Carbon Challenge.  The resort also participates in the Upper Saco River Valley Land Trust, helping to preserve the natural beauty of the area.
