Text Box: The Red Jacket Mountain View Resort, North Conway

The Red Jacket reduces their energy consumption though better insulation and more efficient water heaters.  They plan to conserve water by redesigning their landscaping with more perennials and drought tolerant plants.  They are starting a recycling program and asking vendors to minimize packaging.  Fluorescent lighting and batteries are properly disposed of, and the resort is considering recommendations for safer cleaning alternatives.

The InnSeason reduces energy consumption through the use of CFLs, Energy Star appliances and energy efficient outdoor lighting.  Water is conserved through the use of low-flow water devices in guestrooms, a Towel & Linen reuse program and water conserving landscaping plans.  Overall waste reduction is achieved with recycling, purchasing in bulk, reusable drinkware, reuse or donation of furniture and linens.  Hazardous waste has been reduced by eliminating harmful indoor and outdoor chemicals, properly disposing of fluorescent tubes, using environmentally-friendly cleaning products, and reducing chlorine use.  The resort encourages employee/guest input on initiatives.

Eastern Slope has implemented many initiatives to conserve energy including CFLs, occupancy sensors, plans for low energy Exit signs and Energy Star appliances and energy efficient outdoor lighting.  Water is conserved through low-flow showers and faucets, and water conserving landscaping.  Waste reduction is achieved with recycling, reusable drink ware, double-sided printing, and furniture and linen reuse or donation.   The inn also committed to reducing chlorine use, participating in  hazardous waste collections.

The Nordic Inn Resort has become more energy efficient by installing compact fluorescent lighting, occupancy sensors, LED exit signs, Energy Star appliances and closing draperies in unoccupied condos.  The property conserves water with low-flow showerheads and faucets and a towel and linen reuse program.  Waste reduction initiatives include purchasing in bulk, double sided copying, the donation or refurbishing or used furniture and reusing linens as rags.  The inn also properly disposes of fluorescent lighting and uses less toxic cleaning supplies.  Employees and guests are asked for suggestions.

The Beacon Resort has implemented a number of energy saving initiatives including both interior and exterior energy efficient lighting, some occupancy sensors, LED Exit signs and Energy Star appliances.  Their water conservation efforts include low-flow showerheads, an optional towel and linen reuse program and early morning watering.  Waste is reduced through bulk purchasing, the use of cloth napkins, purchasing post-consumer recycled products, double sided printing /copying and the  refurbishing or donation of used furniture.  Hazardous chemicals are properly disposed of and safer cleaning products are used on the property.  Oil is recycled into biodiesel for heating.

The Mount Washington Resort has shown its environmental commitment at its ski area, Bretton Woods and is now greening their hotel operations, as well.  Energy efficient lighting and Energy Star equipment is being installed as remodeling is completed.  A resort employee designed beautiful room placards explaining the towel & linen reuse program, as well as other initiatives.  The ski resort’s expertise in recycling is being implemented in stages at the property, with plans to implement composting in stages.  The resort also reduces waste by offering reusable mugs and glasses in guest rooms and are reviewing bathroom amenities for a more environmentally-sensitive alternative.  The resort is also sharing its plans with suppliers to engage them in more sustainable purchasing alternatives.

Text Box: The Eagle Mountain House and Gold Club is committed to greening their resort.  The property conserves energy through CFL lighting installed in most areas of the resort, dimmers, reminders to staff and guests to turn off energy users and to close shades in rooms to maintain proper room climate.  Due to its location in the White Mountains, the inn is able to eliminate room air conditioning.  Water conservation is achieved with an optional towel and linen reuse program, low-flow water devices and the use of reusable placemats versus tablecloths to reduce laundry load size. Waste is reduced through the use of guestroom glasses/mugs, cloth napkins and sending compost to a local pig farmer.  Eagle Mountain House also shares their efforts with visitors to their website with a page dedicated to their greening efforts!

Text Box: The Grand Summit Hotel is committed to continually lessening their environmental footprint.  Energy reductions have been achieved through the installation of CFLs in most areas, Energy Star rated appliances, energy efficient outside lighting, and pool covers to reduce heat loss.  Water conservation is addressed with low-flow showerheads and faucets, motion sensors on faucets, a towel and linen reuse program, and early morning landscape watering to reduce evaporation.  Waste reduction efforts include a resort-wide recycling program, reusable dinnerware in rooms, cloth napkins in the dining room and post-consumer recycled paper purchasing.  The hotel has worked to eliminate hazardous wastes from landscape maintenance, uses environmentally sensitive cleaning products and employs enzymes to clean pipes rather than caustic chemicals.  The laundry employs ozone washing machines, reducing water and detergent use.
