Text Box: The Jack Daniels Motor Inn was the first member of the NHSLP!  They have installed CFLs in all areas lit for more than six hours a day and installed LED exit signs to be more energy efficient.  They have installed low-flow showerheads to conserve water and plan to implement a towel and linen reuse program.  They have implemented a recycling program for staff and plan to expand it for guest use, as well.  They properly dispose of fluorescent lighting tubes and are investigating safer cleaning alternatives.

Text Box: The Inn at Valley Farms’ environmental sustainability is merely an extension of the owners’ families daily lives.  The inn and the farm focus on their environmental input in every aspect of their operation.  The inn conserves energy through energy efficient lighting, Energy Star appliance policy, energy management, multiple heating zones and insulation.  Water conservation is achieved through low-flow water devices in all rooms, a towel and linen reuse program, stringent housekeeping policy to conserve water and landscaping which limits the need to water to potted plants.  Waste is reduced through composting its organic waste, recycling, serving on reusable dinnerware and employing cloth napkins.  Books are provided rather than newspapers in the common areas.  Other waste reducing techniques are bulk purchasing, reducing paper waste and employing an environmentally preferable purchasing policy.  The inn  grows, raises or purchases organic food, locally.  The inn is working with Antioch students to convert a dairy barn on the property to an education center for sustainable agriculture.  Hazardous wastes are almost non-existent.  The owners share their environmental ethic on their website and throughout their property.

Text Box: The Inn at East Hill Farm is one of the first properties to certify under the new points based application.  The inn’s energy use is lowered through energy efficient lighting, LED Exit signs, a policy to replace appliances with Energy Star models, energy use tracking, a climate control setback policy when rooms are unoccupied and the tightening the shell with some new low-E windows.  The inn conserves water through the continued installation of low-flow showerheads and toilets, a towel and linen reuse program, landscaping with natives and perennials and rain water collection for watering.  The inn reduces their waste through the recycling of paper, cardboard, metal and plastic, composting, purchasing local foods when available, repurposing towels and linens and donating furniture to charities.  The inn reduces it hazardous waste through

proper universal waste disposal, Integrated Pest Management to reduce pesticides and reduction of chlorine laundry use.  The farm employs many conservation practices which protect water, wetlands and provide habitat for wildlife.  The inn shares the environmental policies on the website, as well as at their property.

Chesterfield Inn, West Chesterfield

The Chesterfield Inn is committed to reducing their environmental footprint.  The inn reduces energy consumption with energy efficient lighting indoors and out, an Energy Star appliance policy, and draperies to control climate.  Water is conserved through low-flow showers and toilets, a towel and linen reuse program, landscaping with natives and perennials and minimal watering, if at all.  Waste reduction is also important.  The inn recycles glass, plastic, paper and aluminum.  Dining employs only reusable dinnerware and cloth napkins.  (To go cups and cocktail napkins are paper.)  Toilet paper and paper towels are post-consumer recycled content.  Worn sheets and towels are donated to the Humane Society.  Hazardous waste has been reduced by eliminating the use of pesticides, and properly disposing of CFLs.

The Little River Bed & Breakfast is committed to providing high quality service to their guests in an environmentally responsible manner.  The B&B conserves energy through the use of CFLs, Energy Star appliances, energy tracking and energy conserving windows.  Low-flow water devices, landscaping with natives and perennials and a towel and linen reuse policy help to conserve water.  Waste reduction is a priority - the owners focus on reuse, reduction and recycling as much as possible and donate the rest to charity or Freecycle. Used soap is donated to Clean the World, which sanitizes the soap and send it to third world countries.  The owners also compost, purchase local and regional food and

shop with reusable bags.  Environmentally-sensitive cleaning products are being integrated into their operations, and low VOC paints are used, as well.

Text Box: The Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Keene was built with the goal LEED Gold certification and the management is committed to operating the hotel in an environmentally sensitive way, as well.  Energy efficiency is achieved through occupancy sensors, high efficiency lighting and equipment, low-e windows and a heat exchanger.  Water conservation is realized with high performance water devices in guestrooms and towel & linen reuse programs.  Waste reduction is not only a priority in operation achieved through recycling and source reduction, but was also in the construction of the facility resulting in 75% of construction waste by weight being recycled through local companies.  Hazardous waste is reduced through the

use of Green Seal certified cleaning products low volatile organic compound paints and carpet glues, minimized use of pesticides and an Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy.
