The Ash Street Inn limits energy use through LED exit signs, energy efficient exterior lighting and a proactive maintenance plan.  The actively conserve water with the installation low-flow devices, a towel and linen reuse program for guests, early morning landscape watering.  The innkeeper is active in “Reduce, reuse and recycle” without ever compromising guest service.  The inn participates in hazardous waste collections days.

The Highlander continually evaluates energy needs, participating in lighting upgrades every year since 2000, installing Energy Star appliances and implementing preventative maintenance programs.  They conserve water through the installation of low-flow devices, towel and linen reuse programs and landscape water sensors.  Grease and cardboard are recycled and energy efficient vans are used for airport shuttle service.

Text Box: The Jack Daniels Motor Inn was the first member of the NHSLP!  They have installed CFLs in all areas lit for more than six hours a day and installed LED exit signs to be more energy efficient.  They have installed low-flow showerheads to conserve water and plan to implement a towel and linen reuse program.  They have implemented a recycling program for staff and plan to expand it for guest use, as well.  They properly dispose of fluorescent lighting tubes and are investigating safer cleaning alternatives.

The Residence Inn conserves energy through the use of CFLs throughout the property and motion sensors to light public areas, only when needed.  Water is conserved faucet aerators and water diverters in toilets.  The property is in the process of implementing a recycling program and encourages guest participation.

The Radisson Hotel is committed to making their operation more sustainable.  They have completed an energy audit and are beginning to install energy efficient lighting and exit signs.  They are also helping to maintain guestroom temperatures by closing draperies in unoccupied rooms.  They are conserving water with a towel and linen reuse program and a water conservation maintenance plan.  They have procedures in place to properly dispose of fluorescent lighting and are evaluating environmentally-friendly cleaning products.

The Courtyard by Marriott conserves energy through the installation of CFLs in common areas, timers on exterior lighting and black-out draperies to help control guestroom climate.  The hotel has budgeted upgrades of guestroom lighting and Energy Star televisions next year.  Water is conserved through a towel & linen reuse program, low-flow showerheads and faucets and limited landscape watering.  Waste is reduced through reusable glasses and mugs in guestrooms, reusable dinnerware and cloth napkins in the dining area during lunch and dinner.  Printing is defaulted to double-sided and employees have implemented new maintenance reporting to eliminated the need for printing.  Hazardous waste has been reduced through the elimination  of bleach.

Text Box: The Radisson Hotel has focused their efforts on sustainability in an effort to provide a green setting as the host of the 2009 New England Eco-Hospitality Expo.  The hotel reduces their energy use through the use of CFLs in all non-dimmable lighting and remote, programmable thermostats in public areas and guestrooms, occupancy sensors in back of house areas, replacement of Exit signs with LED versions, as needed, a policy to replace equipment and appliances with Energy Star rated versions, as needed and timers on outside lighting.  Hotel personnel have also completed PSNH’s Energy Audit Program.  Water conservation is achieved through low-flow water devices in guestrooms, a towel and linen reuse program and landscape watering from a retention pond.  Waste is reduced through paper recycling, reusable dinnerware and cloth napkins

and limited composting.  Hazardous chemical waste has been reduced through the use of Green Seal certified cleaning products, reduced use of landscape chemicals and proper disposal of CFLs.  During the hotel’s multi-million dollar renovation in 2008, no longer needed, lightly used furniture was donated to local organizations.

Text Box: The Hampton Inn focused on their environmental footprint as they were preparing to open.  The hotel optimizes energy efficiency through lighting, Energy Star equipment (ES LCD TV’s in guestrooms, etc.) , guestroom HVAC setback in unoccupied rooms, LED Exit signs and low-E windows.  Water is conserved through low-flow showerheads, toilets and faucet aerators, towel and linen reuse program, landscaping with perennials and moisture-sensored watering.  Overall waste is reduced through a start-up recycling effort, post-consumer recycled toilet paper and tissues, reusing office waste paper as notepaper and repurposing old towels and linens for cleaning.  Hazardous waste reduction is achieved through the proper disposal of CFLs and batteries, Integrated Pest Management, low VOC paints and Green Seal certified cleaning materials.

Zahn’s Alpine Guest House strives to maintain a sustainable environment by conserving energy through energy efficient lighting throughout the property, a policy to replace appliances with Energy Star models, as needed, energy efficient windows, a well insulated envelope and a wood burning Kachelofen stove.  Water is conserved through low-flow water devices, perennial and native landscaping, wildlife  habitat and a towel and linen reuse program.  Zahn’s recycles and reduces their waste through reusable coffee mugs, refillable condiment containers, and purchasing organic and locally grown food,, when available. Hazardous waste is reduced through proper disposal of universal wastes, elimination of fertilizer and pesticides, the use of low VOC paints, carpet glue and IPM indoors and the use of environmentally sensitive cleaning products.
